FALL 2008

Welcome back to all returning students and a hearty welcome to new students.  I’ve met with everyone at least once so far and it’s great to be back enjoying more songs and dances together-  making music is fun!

Our 4^th graders will be playing the soprano recorder this year and putting their music reading skills into practice.  A note to parents is going home the week of September 8^th – concerning the particulars.  Please feel free to contact me if you have further questions.  There will be opportunities throughout the school year for students to showcase their progress – but our culminating goal is Colonial Day – set for Friday, June 12^th rain or shine.  Aside from many activities throughout colonial day there will be a program of colonial songs and dances and recorder playing.  Everyone dresses in colonial period costumes – the day is a blast !

Third Graders will have an International Music Concert – on the calendar for Thursday, May 7, 2009.  Throughout the year we will be learning songs and dances from various countries.  The evening of the performance students dress in a costume representing a country of their choice.  They are asked to be creative using what they have in their closet.

First and Second Grade students will have “informances” in the spring when parents are invited to attend music class with their child to see the music curriculum in action.  Times and dates will go home @ month in advance of the appointed time. 

Parents – do you play an instrument that you’d be willing to demonstrate to our students?  It’s always great when our stndents can see first hand the life-long pleasure music participation can bring to your life.  Please let me know if you have a talent you’d like to share with your

Child’s class. 

I know we’re going to have a great year musically !!
