A Note From Mrs. Ackermann’s Class…

August 29, 2008

Hello Everyone!

Our first two days of school went very smoothly. The kids were well behaved and we all got a chance to know each other a little better. To help you and your child get prepared for this school year, the second grade team has put together the following list with helpful tips and suggestions.

 ORGANIZATION:

Please label all of your child’s belongings.

Your child should bring a backpack to school daily. A two-pocket folder is also recommended to encourage responsibility and communication. Please send notes in this folder and be sure to check your child’s folder regularly for classroom notices.

SNACKS:

Each child is responsible for his/her own nutritional snack and drink each day.  (Candy is not permitted as a snack.) Our snack will be in the morning.

LUNCH:

lunch We have a new lunch schedule this year. Mrs. Seales’s and

Mrs. Chester’s classes will have lunch from 11:25-11:50 with the

third graders and Mrs. Maxwell’s & Mrs. Ackermann’s classes will have lunch from 11:55-12:20 with the first graders. We will hold all lunch cards in the classroom. You may send your child to school with a check to put money on account, or you may do this online.

TOYS/TRADING CARDS/BALLS FROM HOME:

Please do not send your child to school with any toys, cards, balls, etc., unless asked. We would feel badly if these items became lost or broken. It’s very difficult to monitor the trading of baseball or any other cards so we strongly urge everyone to keep their collections at home and do trading when they are not in school… preferably at home or in your presence.

BIRTHDAYS:

Please do not send your child to school with treats. If snacks show up to class, we will have to return them home. We also ask that you do not send in goodie bags. The office will announce birthdays during morning announcements and we will acknowledge birthdays in our classes. Thanks!

VOLUNTEERS:

The second grade team welcomes your help this year in our rooms. A volunteer notice will be distributed at Back to School Night. This will describe all of the fun little ways you can help out in our classroom.

HOMEWORK:

Your child will have homework sent home weekly. This will begin in mid September after Back to School Night. Typically, it will be   sent home on Mondays and is meant to be completed and returned on Fridays. We thank you in advance for your help and support in     establishing good work habits.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT:

This is scheduled for Wednesday, September 17th at 6:00pm.

Come visit your child’s classroom to hear what’s in store for your

second grader!

REPORT CARDS:

Your child will get a report card three times this year. You can   expect the first report card on November 26th. Each second

grade teacher will be scheduling conferences on two early

dismissal days. (December 3rd & 4th)

PICK UPS:

All children being picked up at the end of the school day will be escorted to Room 19, the MUSIC ROOM, in the back of the     building.  The children do not leave the classrooms until

3:25 and arrive within 3-5 minutes. Upon arrival, they will sit at

tables by grade level. Parents are to come to the EXTERIOR door

and wait in line. The staff members on duty will wait until all

children have arrived and will then begin to dismiss the children.

They will call your child when you are next in line. Your child’s

name will be checked off at this time. On the pick up note you

send in, we ask who will be picking up your child. We can not

release the child to any other individual except the one you have

indicated. We are asked to remind parents to please park in the

front of the building and walk to the back of the building. Once

you have your child you may walk safely along the sidewalk back to

your car. This will alleviate “people traffic” out in the hallways

so that we can safely board the buses from the building with less

confusion for the children. We thank you in advance for your help

        and support in this matter.

VISITORS:

All visitors are to report to the office to sign in and to pick up their visitor badge. We will have a badge for each visitor. Upon leaving the building you must sign out and leave your badge with the secretary. This holds true for all school volunteers! For the safety of your children we have been asked to approach any adult in the building without a badge. This is a school policy and we ask that you support this policy.
