Ryerson Families & Friends,

Happy New Year to all of you! I trust all of you have had a wonderful holiday season and are filled with the excitement of the possibilities the year 2010 will bring to all of us. As we embark on this New Year, I extend my sincerest wishes to all of you for happiness, health and personal fulfillment throughout this year.

The close of 2009 at Ryerson was a very special one for our community. We began a new tradition at Ryerson with our Winter Solstice Celebration. During our assembly, children enjoyed singing winter songs, listening to winter stories from friends and sharing stories together as a learning community. Although, this was a great time enjoyed by all, the most heart-warming portion of the assembly took place when the children donated hundreds of gloves, hats, mittens, scarves and boots to the Hamden Children’s center. It was a very touching moment and demonstrated the true meaning of the season! I wish to thank all of you for your generous donations to the Hamden Children’s Center. Many children will benefit from your donation! I feel very fortunate to be a part of such a great community!

At this time, I would also like to thank the Ryerson PTO for its continued efforts to our community and to their commitment to our children. We have enjoyed several Cultural Arts programs this year, participated in a terrific Book Fair and enjoyed several fun family events due to the efforts of our PTO members. We are very lucky to have these members and their involvement within our community. The children and staff are very fortunate to have you! We look forward to many more fun events in 2010.

At Ryerson, we continue to be committed to ensuring your child’s academic experience is rigorous and meaningful. Our mission remains clear in that each child is afforded an education that meets his or her individual needs. As we move forward in our work, I encourage you to contact me with any questions, concerns or thoughts regarding our work and your child’s progress. We are partners in this work and therefore, strong communication is critical! My door is always open to listen to your concerns and address the areas together! I encourage you to email me at spoonerk@madison.k12.ct.us; telephone me at (203) 245-6440 or simply, stop by!

Best wishes to all of you in 2010,

Kelly K. Spooner
