I wonder if people will stop yelling at me.
I hear people yelling at the top of their lungs.
I see white people yell at me.
I want them to stop, but I don’t say a word.

I pretend white people are not yelling at me.
I feel sad and lonely in the classroom.
I touch my lunch pail as I walk to school.
I worry about the people surrounding me.
I cry because it is an awful sight.
I am Ruby Bridges.

I understand the feelings the white people have.
I say not a word.
I dream of white and black people to be free.
I try to ignore the yelling people.
I hope they will stop some day.
